General Description
The IGN Chief News and Features Editor is responsible for gathering and writing press release news, contacting press representatives to create more in-depth news stories, tracking down exclusive news stories, posting press releases on IGN's Wire service, participating in weekly podcasts, and developing ideas for as well as producing feature articles. The Chief News and Features Editor oversees the games news team at IGN.
Daily tasks include actively searching for newsworthy items, writing and publishing daily PC and multi-console news articles, maintaining a database of important contacts, interacting with the readers to build a sense of community, posting media, researching feature ideas, and traveling and reporting on industry-related events.
Responsibilities
Managing an editorial team in charge of daily news publication on the IGN family of websites
Searching the Internet for gaming-related news
Writing and publishing news stories in a timely manner
Posting media
Developing ideas for and producing feature articles
Posting press releases on IGN's Wire service
Maintaining a database of important news-related contacts
Frequently contacting press representatives regarding news stories
Qualifications
At least three years experience in online publishing or related field
Management experience
Extensive knowledge of the videogame industry, both classic and current, and all gaming platforms
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent writing skills
Ability to perform tasks relatively unsupervised
Ability to organize a daily publish and delegate tasks as needed
Ability to communicate and work well with the other IGN editors as well as industry press representatives
Must be familiar with Microsoft Word and basic html
Love and acceptance of all videogame systems
Must be 18 years of age or older
Can work in the San Francisco Bay area
