the first paper of the 2008 a levels has come and gone.

before i talk abt the paper, let me share with u some quotes from my sea hist teacher.

on tackling the questions, "u know when they say please check if you have 5 printed pages, please use that time to scan through the questions. i am not telling u to cheat - but what is that time for anw? so please look through the questions."

on preparing for the exam, "u know ur prepared when u enter the exam hall."

on preparing for the exam, "this is my best bet: asean - security and cooperation, blah blah ( because i've forgotten everything else ).."

right, so with such a good teacher we are all ready to get that A, aren't we?

im not sarcastic when i say good. he's really good - he even came to join us in the morning when we were waiting outside the ish to go in. he's so nervous abt his first batch of a level students!

ok on to the paper.

for the first time in my 2 years of doing exams in rjc, i get a fucking wobbly table.

if that's not enough, i get a fucking wobbly floor too.

im not kidding.

somehow there's like this big hole beneath the wooden tiles of the ish, so when the teachers walk up and down my whole table bobbles like a boat.

ok, time to check the number of pages.

pages 2 and 3, where the sources for the sbq are: somehow they are dated in 1997.

hmm.

what happened in 1997?

asian financial crisis.

okay.

oh wait, u gotta be kidding.

scans through the provenance again of one source: asean finance ministers meeting.

omg u gotta be fucking kidding me!

i do not recall reading anything about the afc in my bloody thick set of asean notes!

time to close the booklet.

8am, time to start.

yes, it's really the afc. i was hoping i was imagining things while scanning through a minute earlier.

nope, my speed reading skills are quite good in fact.

whatever happened to the best bet?

never mind, smoke time.

( after 50mins - yes i went over my self-allocated time of 45min, meaning that everything else got delayed and i was rushing for time ) essay time.

looks at qn 2: ideology, culture or some shit blah blah, which is more important the usual kind of assessment qn.

holy fuck?

skip.

qn 3: process of decolonisation affected by cold war? interesting qn, similar one came out for prelims.

tick.

qn 4: democracy not suited to southeast asia.

wtf, this came out before!

tick.

qn 5: must have been a f up qn coz i dun rem it at all now.

skip.

qn 6: ideology main cause of inter-state qns.

hey, he went through during the revision lecture. oh wait, i wasn't really paying attention, and this is the topic which i spent only 1hr on.

tick.

11.15am, butts up.

"sbq wtf?"

for the non-hist students, sbq is the compulsory qn in the exam.

and i wasn't the only one who didn't rem seeing those three letters in the notes.

yeah, so u get my drift.

if some school taught it, we're goin to find ourselves on the other side of the bell curve.

and sbq is always the qn meant to save ur asses in case ur fucked in the essays.

looks like we're gonna feel much more pain now.
