singaporeans have an obsession with cars, i believe.
it's one of the 5Cs of the singaporean dream, so definitely there's something about them.
if u like fancy sports cars, like me, here's 2 places where u can find them.
no not the showrooms. they won't let u in.
the driveway outside hilton hotel is like the second home of ferraris. today is prob the 57th time i've seen ferraris parked there.
one ferrari is a shining star.
two ferraris make a pair of diamond-studded earrings.
three ferraris - take down the mona lisa painting please.
360, f430 and a 599, the third being the rarest of the singaporean stable.
together with the prancing horses were a porsche ( nothing special really ) and while i was taking a photo of the 599 an aston martin db9 parked behind it.
the 2nd place is the carpark at paragon. there's always a porsche parked at the same spot, and i've already spotted a couple of ferraris, lambos and nissan gtrs on separate occasions.
okay what im going to say from here does not concern me at all, and may never will depending on the outcome of nxt fri. but because im a cynic and a critic i can't keep my mouth shut.
the db9 is a beautiful car, like all aston martins are.
but why drive a db9 in this tiny island?
let me explain it for u. astons are british. so the db9 was made for brits who want to drive across europe instead of taking a plane or train.
in other words, it's meant for a long, relaxing journey.
i stress relaxing.
okay, u want to drive across the causeway. fine, it's not a short trip. but hell it isn't a comfortable ride either.
u can't speed. and at the same time ur slow speed will make getting boxed by the infamous johor musketeers' cars much simpler.
and driving a db9 to marketplace - i believe ur too upclass for ntuc - is not practical too. it consumes more fuel, and takes up more space at a parking lot. u will prob lose ur headlamps because it's too long.
so my point is, if u want an aston martin, and by all means go and buy one if u have the money, get a smaller car like a v8 vantage. it's cheaper, more practical and u get the same kind of attention from the general public.
just not as much as that given to ferraris and lambos because unfortunately, most singaporeans dunno what an aston martin is. they just see ur car has 2 doors, shaped long like a sausage, gasp a while and walk on.
i felt a bit sad for that db9 because there were 2 guys who were taking photo with the 599 in front and practically ignored him.
a ferrari gets gazed at until they disappear out of sight, like megan fox walking past.
she broke up with that brian guy btw.
honestly speaking, it's a tough choice between a ferrari and a lambo these days. lambo designs are much meaner, aggressive, ready to bite u if u dun drive it properly. a ferrari looks too sweet. dun get me wrong, its curves are exquisite. more suitable for a middle-aged man.
u know, i wouldnt drive around in one of these.
too flashy. too loud. extra, in other words.
but they would be v useful on a fri night. u wouldnt have to walk into a bar or club, u just lean against the car outside and u will get a pickup. no need for cheesy lines or bleeding eardrums against horrendous music - just say 'get in'.
many of us are learning how to drive, and may very well buy their first car in a couple of years' time. here's my suggestions.
dun get a luxury car as ur first ride. ur still a noob and ur cautious driving will only lead to impatient honkings behind u, coupled with snickerings like 'dunno how to drive then dun sit in the bmw la'.
instead get sth small, like a mini cooper. they're cool alright, just a little erm wide so parking might be a little inconvenient but there's still something special about them. they got the italian job done, they helped bourne escape from paris police. dont u feel like an action hero?
i dunno who started the whole bodykits and spoilers fad - must be the fast and the furious movie - and i've no qualms about modifying ur car, if it's done right.
and on the appropriate vehicle as well.
there are only 2 japanese cars that are suitable for modification - the mitsubishi lancer evolution and the subaru impreza wrx. these 2 are normal road cars based on rally models, so dressing them up is perfectly normal.
but putting a body kit and a spoiler on a toyota corolla altis is seriously a joke. i guess the spoiler is there to keep the car from floating away when the wind blows.
body kits are like new clothes. some ppl are just not meant to wear certain types of clothing.
no offence - imagine a 100kg woman with lumps of bulging fats wearing a bikini.
a bigger joke would be to put the spoiler on a mpv.
like, wth? are u gg to race in a mpv, with a baby in the backseat?
however the biggest joke of all is to put the spoiler on a van.
tt's something i will never forget.
i know u love ur ride - who doesn't. but there's still a line not to be crossed.
like pasting calvin and hobbes vinyls on the hood of a porsche 911.
i am not making this up - if only i had a photo as evidence of such degeneration of mankind.
who mistreats a porsche like that!
may i suggest a pooh bear car for u instead?

back to body kits and spoilers - it's natural to want to feel good. to feel like ur michael schumacher.
if only u could apply ur love for and fascination with speed to ur walking.
i cannot emphasise more how much i hate ppl who walk slowly in front of me and block my way.
everywhere i walk, i feel like im playing need for speed.
im always on the lookout for a path to weave through the human traffic. the only time i walked slowly was when i injured my knee and had to hobble.
oh, and when it was time for stupid assembly talks.
traffic car in front, change lane and overtake.
oh noes there's an oncoming car with baby on board.
cant brake, there're more cars behind me. dont want to start a pile up.
it's a split-second decision and there's not enough time for me to go to the next lane without getting hit headon.
so i squeeze in between.
my leg accidentally hits the pram.
baby flies out.
oops.
cherry garcia..
